Aiken Regional Medical Center Quality of Life

From the CEO

Carlos MilanesIt's winter -- and it's more important than ever to stay healthy. In this issue of Quality of Life, you'll learn what you should know about the H1N1 virus. Our advice can help you and your family stay healthy during flu season.

The importance of preventive measures, however, isn't limited to the flu; your long-term health depends on it. That is one reason we have added digital mammography to the list of advanced diagnostic technologies available at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Digital mammograms offer enhanced capabilities to our medical professionals so that they can detect breast cancer earlier and help determine an optimal course of treatment for patients.

We understand that successful breast cancer treatment relies not only on quality healthcare, but also on coping with a range of emotions, information and responsibilities that accompany a diagnosis. That is why we've added a breast health nurse navigator to our team at the Cancer Care Institute at Aiken Regional to assist you and your loved ones on this journey.

Because obesity-related illnesses such as sleep apnea and diabetes can impact your quality of life, we have added weight-loss surgery to our range of services. A preoperative and aftercare program complements laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding surgery to help you reduce your weight -- and keep it off.

And you can continue to rely on our comprehensive cardiovascular program to meet your needs, from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

In this issue, we caught up with a few of our physicians during their free time, which is often spent serving the community. Whether it's involvement in local sports, the arts or free clinics, many of our team members demonstrate their commitment to and appreciation for Aiken beyond the hospital's walls.

Stay healthy and well this winter. If you do need us, we look forward to serving you.
